Foam and sponges are normally cut using routers. Routers generally come in two versions, the standard version with rack and pinion drives or with linear drives. Machines for cutting foam and sponges can be milling plotters or milling machines equipped with a cutting head option. This solution allows us to cut foams when milling is the main function of the machine.
Some materials like foams, sponges and soundproofing materials tend to stick to a knife or cause quick wear of cutting knives if they're abrasive, like glass wool or glass fiber materials. In these situations, using a waterjet is recommended. These have been standard in the mineral wool industry for many years and are the best technology for cutting these materials. For artificial materials that melt from the interaction with a knife, like polyamide damping mats, cutting with water is recommended.
